What a first year it’s been as your director!
We can’t wait to unveil the initial shows
in our 2008-2009 season so I’ll be as
brief as possible...
An already great 07-08 lineup was later amended
to include Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Neko Case,
Richard Thompson, Los Lobos, Ani Difranco, and
so many more. Why didn’t we include them
all in the initial offering? Well, we would
rather buy “routed tour dates” that
save on upfront costs and therefore keep our
ticket prices as low as we can to offer top
quality talent. So here we’ll introduce
our initial slate of series that again include
Family, Comedy, Classics and World Music plus
a few select headliners and special events and
ask you to watch for our constant updates. Make

More than 50,000 people experienced the State
Theatre last season over the course of almost
seventy events. These events were extremely
diverse, culturally enlightening, and always
entertaining. This season a few favorites will
return, and some new friends will appear. In
all, we hope to offer something for every palate.
If not listed here, look for what we announce
as the season unfolds.
You may notice the lack of Broadway and theatrical
productions in this catalogue. I must assure
you, we tried incredibly hard to offer these
options, but unfortunately, we could not secure
dates at a cost that made sense. Until we fully
renovate our stage housing, the majority of
these shows simply will not fit on our stage.
The ones that did were cost-prohibitive based
on past sales. We will work hard to build this
area of programming as our subscriber, donor,
and sponsor bases increase in the coming years.
Bear with us, we’re growing and will get
there, someday soon!
The
continued work on the marquee will be completed
in this summer’s nice weather. We installed
new carpet during the break this winter. With
help of a generous grant, we plan to double
the number of linesets on our stage this year.
This will aid in our goal of a more modern stage
and open us up to offer a wider variety of entertainment.
So again I invite you to join us! Subscribe
to one of our four performing arts series laid
out in this brochure. Add some shows to your
package from those on the headliners page or
some special events found later in this mailing.
You’ll be among the first with a chance
to do so! Further, I encourage you to visit
our space and see how captivating it can be.
Hopefully you will be motivated sufficiently
to join the State Theatre family. We welcome
you to consider volunteering and do watch for
the imminent announcement of our new membership
program. Information regarding these opportunities
